Our national flag is the supreme symbol of our independence and sovereignty. Every independent nation in the world has its own national flag, and Bangladesh is no exception. Our flag was officially adopted on January 17, 1972. The shape of the flag is rectangular with a length-to-width ratio of 10:6. It consists of a vibrant red circle inside a bottle-green background. The deep green color represents the everlasting greenery and natural beauty of our country, while the red circle symbolizes the rising sun of a new dawn and the heroic sacrifices made by our freedom fighters during the Liberation War of 1971. The national flag is hoisted daily on top of major government institutions, educational facilities, and diplomatic missions abroad.
